Decky Memorial Touch Rugby Tournament
Tuesday 12th September 2023Richard ‘Decky’ Thomas passed away at the young age of 29 due to Dilated Cardiomyopathy, a disease that affects the heart’s muscle tissue. In his memory, a remarkable annual charity event has been established to celebrate his life, raise awareness about heart health, and contribute to vital research to combat heart diseases.
In the spirit of commemorating the life and legacy of Richard, the Decky Memorial Touch Rugby Tournament was established and has been held annually, with the exception of 2020.
This event has become a beacon of hope, uniting various rugby teams and supporters for a noble cause – raising awareness about Cardiomyopathy. Trade Centre Wales supported the cause by contributing £400.
Morriston RFC Monkeys whom we sponsor through our very own Kit Klub initiative took part in tournament which was held at Loughor RFC. This tournament has grown in size and significance since its inception. Rugby teams from various backgrounds and skill levels enthusiastically participate in this event, forging bonds beyond the field while championing a vital cause. Until next year, may Decky’s memory continue to inspire us all.
