Premier League Football Comes To Abergavenny Next Season.

Abergavenny Town Football Club will have it’s very own senior women’s team next season with the formation of Abergavenny Women Football Club and will be welcoming the likes of Cardiff City, Swansea City and current Champions Cardiff Metropolitan University to Pen y Pound stadium competing in The Welsh Premier Women’s League.

The team is relocating from P.I.L.C.S Ladies in Pontypool where they’ve enjoyed 5 seasons rising through the ranks to gain promotion amongst the elite of the female game in Wales under the management of Wayne Jeremiah for 4 seasons before last season 24 year Abergavenny Town’s striker Richie Jeremiah took over the reigns.

During those 5 years “The Green Army” won 2 league titles in The South Wales Women’s League and gained promotion into The Premier League in 2013. 3 top 5 finishes, 2 Welsh Cup semi-finals and 2 league cup finals including our finest hour in 2015 when we lifted the league cup defeating hot favourites Swansea City 3 v 2 in a thriller at the Genquip Stadium in Port Talbot.

Returning to Abergavenny means Richie and Wayne have come full circle having spent 10 years setting up and running Mardy Tigers Football Club who enjoyed some great success including winning the 2010 U,16’s Welsh Cup, a team which consisted of quite a few of today’s side. The tigers have also provided over 25 Welsh internationals from U.16’s through the ranks and include 2 local players Amy Thrupp and Sharla Passariello who are full Welsh internationals.

Linking up with Abergavenny Town is an exciting prospect and who knows with the league champions gaining entry into The Champions League, European football @ Abergavenny Town is a thrilling prospect in years to come.
