Trade Centre Wales extends support to Nelson RFC

Nelson RFC has renewed its sponsorship with Trade Centre Wales  for the second year, allowing the club to purchase new strips for the U16s team.

The Nelson-based rugby club, founded in 1934, welcomes many different age groups for girls and boys, including U15s, U16s and U18s. Thanks to sponsorship from Trade Centre Wales, the U16 team will receive £1200 towards brand new kits for the upcoming rugby season.

A family-run club

The family orientated rugby club has previously received Trade Centre Wales sponsorship in 2018 for its senior teams, and this will be the  first time the under 16 age group will be given funding for new kits.

The manager of the U16s, Steve Gray, said: “My wife and I have managed this team for almost nine years now and we’ve never been lucky enough to have this amount of sponsorship.The money will make all the difference to us, as over the years we’ve had to get creative with raising money for the team, from sponsored walks, discos and bingo nights at the club. To raise this kind of money would have taken us months and a lot of time planning events, so we are incredibly grateful to Trade Centre Wales for the support.  

“At the club we’re really focused on team bonding and like to take the team out for activities like rafting and ice skating, but it all costs money. This sponsorship means we’ll be able to free up some much-needed funds for equipment without having to sacrifice the team bonding days that everyone enjoys so much.”

Supporting youth development

Andy Coulthurst, CEO of Trade Centre Wales, said: “It is quite rare to see a regional club investing in the youth teams as much as Nelson RFC, so we’re glad the sponsorship will be of great help to some up and coming young players, and we hope it will keep them involved in the sport for years to come.

“The fact that they support the youth so much demonstrates the importance of giving back to the local community, which is something we are Trade Centre feel passionately about, and so we’re proud to be offering our support to the team for the next rugby season.
