A community theatre company is the latest initiative to benefit from funding by The Trade Centre Wales. South Wales’ largest used car showroom donated £500 to Stardreams Musical Theatre Company.

The money was used to help with costs for the company’s latest musical production, Oliver.

Securing the perfect venue

Stardreams Musical Theatre Company is a Pontypridd-based community group set up in 2008 by Robert Edmunds. It inspires and educates people of all ages and walks of life from all over South Wales to live the dream through acting, singing and dancing, as well as providing lots of opportunities behind the scenes.

Company Manager and Musical Director Robert said: “Each year we try to do something new and exciting that everyone will be proud to be a part of. This year we wanted to make the production bigger and better than before, however we are always limited because of limited funds.”

“Although we receive income from weekly membership fees, this only goes so far and often only covers the rehearsal space each week. The support we received from Trade Centre Wales was vital and helped us secure Blaenavon Ironworks as the set for the production! It couldn’t have been a better fit for Oliver, and really took our production to the next level.”

Robert continued: “This year we had a cast and company of just over 30, ranging from six to seventy years old. We’re always trying to attract new local talent. Everyone was incredible and I’m proud of what we have all achieved together. It’s so nice to see that the larger businesses like Trade Centre Wales are eager to get behind local community projects like us. It makes me so happy and thankful that we have their continued support.”

A community-focused business

Andy Coulthurst, CEO of The Trade Centre Wales, said: “It’s great to know that our support was able to help Stardreams Musical Theatre Company secure the perfect venue for its production of Oliver. With a showroom in Merthyr, we believe that we are part of the community and so were proud to support the production in any way we could. Members of our team went along to see the show and were blown away by the talent and enthusiasm, so well done all!”
