Used car scheme passes milestone four months after launch

The Trade Centre Wales are happy to say that more than 5,000 used cars have now been sold under the RAC’s BuySure used car initiative just four months after its launch.

The 5,000th car itself was a 2009 Ford Focus sold at our Neath branch earlier this week and bought by Aaron Williams of Pontpridd.

RAC Head of Dealer Propositions Mario Dolcezza, said: “The volume of cars sold under RAC BuySure is now rising quite quickly month-by-month and momentum is beginning to build quickly.

“Our initial strategy has concentrated on signing larger independent used car dealers and supermarkets in order to maximise the number of units sold and also to spread awareness of the initiative.

“However, as the profile of RAC BuySure grows, we expect to see more franchisees and smaller independents coming on board, especially as evidence for the business case for joining the initiative begins to accumulate.”

RAC BuySure has been created to provide used car customers with a nationwide approved used car scheme that sets very high standards and is open to all kinds of dealers including independents, car supermarkets and franchises.

Dealers commit to an 82-point RAC Approved Preparation Standard on every vehicle, a minimum of three months’ RAC Warranty cover, three months of complimentary RAC Roadside breakdown cover provided free of charge and enrolment to RAC Accident Management Service, supporting the motorist in the event of an accident. The Trade Centre Wales exceeds this check however by providing customers with a 99-point pre sale inspection.

Mario continued: “An interesting point is that dealers are finding that the investment in the right stock and the right preparation to retail a car through RAC BuySure allows them to price accordingly. Customers are recognising that only very high quality used cars are being sold through the initiative and are willing to pay for the inherent peace of mind.”

RAC BuySure is being promoted through the RAC web site, which has around one million unique visitors every month, to the organisation’s 2.1 million members and five million affinity members, and through its patrol magazines and other publications. The initiative has been created by the RAC with its long-time partner in the warranty sector, The Warranty Group.
