South Wales’ largest used car showroom donates £1150 towards rugby kits for Cardiff-based, St Albans RFC in preparation for the clubs 125th anniversary.
St Albans Rugby Football Club is a community club with eight teams across both senior and junior leagues, increasing to nine in the new season. The funding will be used towards 26 new kits for the senior team which will see the club revert to the traditional playing kit of black and amber stripes.
As is true with most community club financial constraints are common place. The funding offered from Trade Centre Wales will allow St Albans to purchase a new senior kit as well as alleviating some internal funds into other areas, such as the junior section, which continues to grow.
St Albans RFC play each week across Cardiff and while the team lost their opening game of the season, the squad managed to go on to achieve 15 consecutive wins to be crowned champions of National League 3 East Central C division.
Mike Thomas, club coach at St Albans RFC, said: “St Albans RFC are well known and respected throughout the district and even though we lost our opening game, the players responded fantastically and remained undefeated from that point on! This season we saw an injection of youth to our senior team and balanced with some experience players, the support from Trade Centre Wales couldn’t have come at a better time with a larger squad than we have been used to over recent seasons.
“The entire team are so grateful to Trade Centre Wales for donating the funds needed to get new kits. Having the new kits will help us feel more like a squad, and with new players joining all the time, it’s essential that we have the resources needed to support this.
“Thanks to the hard work from all our players, we are in a good position to achieve a promotion next season, meaning things can only get better and better for the clubs 125th anniversary next year.”
Andy Coulthurst, CEO of The Trade Centre Wales, said: “The rapid growth we’ve experienced over the past year has enabled us to work alongside more and more local initiatives across the country. Although we are pushing forward with ambitious expansion plans, as a Welsh business our commitment to local community projects remains at the heart of what we do.
“We’re pleased to hear that our support will help bring St Albans RFC kit back to life and look forward to seeing the team play in their traditional colours once again. It’s great to hear that St Albans RFC managed to get the result they wanted this season! We wish them all the luck for the future.”
