English Middleweight boxing champion, Darryll Williams receives training sponsorship through South Wales’ leading used car retailer, The Trade Centre Wales.

The London-born boxer, who has relocated to Swansea will be defending his championship title later this month. The Trade Centre Wales sponsored the undefeated champion by donating funding towards a comprehensive 12 month training plan with AJM Boxing.

Williams, who is aspiring to be the best in his weight class, has often struggled financially to fund the recommended training programs meaning that getting the correct level of professional support from coaches can be difficult. The sponsorship provided by The Trade Centre Wales will aid the ongoing training provision with Swansea based AJM Boxing and assist in ensuring that the title holder is at the top of his game to defend his title at the London’s O2 Arena on 23 June.

Darryll Williams defending a Championship title

Williams, who is currently unbeaten in his reign, has been boxing since the age of 10 and has trained with several different professional coaches over the years.

Darryll Williams said: “My first trainer lived here in Swansea and so when the opportunity to come back to Wales presented itself, I was really excited. I met Alastair James MacDonald, Proprietor at AJM Boxing at an event in London, and straight away I knew I wanted to work alongside his team of coaches. We train 3-4 times per day, with a mixture of high and low intensity activities. The training ranges from long distance runs, to yoga and weight lifting, which is the perfect balance of strength and conditioning.

“Knowing that part of the training is supported through sponsorship is a huge weight off my shoulders as its often hard to fund such intense training schedules by myself. And for that I’m really grateful.”

Supporting pound for pound

Alastair James MacDonald, Proprietor at AJM Boxing, said: “I am very happy with the progress the English Champion has made with our coaches during the fight camp, we are very privileged to have the opportunity working with Darryll “Ferocious” Williams.

“Our coaches at AJM Boxing are very skilled in the area of expertise and we as a team have made a huge impact on Darryll Williams for the champion to remark that we have collaborated so well, that he is now feeling in his best form and ready for his fight with Lennox Clarke at the London O2 Arena on June 23rd 2018.”

Andy Coulthurst, CEO of The Trade Centre Wales, said: “As a community-focused business, we’re always on the look out for new opportunities to support local businesses. We are proud to help by sponsoring Darryll Williams vital training sessions with AJM Boxing and we wish him the best of luck in his fight later this month.”
