South Wales’ largest used car showroom donates £1,100 towards football and netball kit for students at Penyrheol Comprehensive School.

The money was used to purchase kits to be taken on tour to Florida, where the children competed against American teams in a series of tournaments. The kits will now continue to be worn for school games in the community.

New sports kit provides a sense of identity

Adam Clapperton, PE teacher at the Penyrheol Comprehensive School, said: “We’re so grateful to Trade Centre Wales for donating the money and supporting local school teams.

“Having these kits really gave us a sense of identity and made the pupils not only look but feel good.”

Adam continued: “Playing sport at school is so important as it gives pupils the chance to compete and excel in a variety of sports. Playing together helps with their team work skills as well as testing their own individual ability.

“All our teams are doing really well in their leagues, and many pupils have left school to go on to play for their country, including rugby star, Leigh Halfpenny.”

Supporting local school sports teams

Andy Coulthurst, CEO of The Trade Centre Wales, said: “It’s always been really important for us to support the local sporting talent. School is sometimes the first experience of sport and can result in the start of some great careers.

“Members of staff themselves went to Penyrheol and many of their children still attend, so it’s close to our hearts and anything we’re happy to help in any way we can.”
