Trade Centre Wales’ brand ambassador, Gareth “Alfie” Thomas, has been working closely with South Wales Police throughout National Hate Crime Awareness Week, spreading an important message across South Wales – hate crime is a crime, and it must be reported.

Throughout the week, Gareth, along with South Wales Police, were out and about visiting several schools each day, speaking with young people about the importance of understanding hate in all its forms, from discrimination and racism to sexism and homophobia. These open and honest discussions helped pupils recognise that hate crime affects real lives, and that reporting it allows police to act, raise awareness, and improve community safety through accurate statistics.

The week of activity ended on a high at Newbridge Fields, with the inspiring “Race Against Hate” event. Children with additional needs took to the track first, each receiving a medal for their efforts, followed by able-bodied children who all earned awards for their participation. It was a truly inclusive and uplifting day – a celebration of unity, respect, and teamwork.

Schools, youth organisations, and local clubs from across the region took part, showcasing the wide range of activities and facilities available to young people. The event also highlighted opportunities to get children active, engaged, and connected, away from screens and out enjoying movement, sport, and friendship.

Trade Centre Wales is keen to continue helping South Wales Police create safer, more inclusive communities. Brand ambassador Gareth ‘Alfie’ Thomas said,

“The response this week has been so positive, and we’re delighted to show up, support, and help make a real difference.”

This week has been a powerful reminder that small conversations can spark big change. Mark Bailey, Founder and Director of Trade Centre Wales, added,

“We’re incredibly proud to support this initiative and to see the impact Gareth and South Wales Police are having in our communities. It’s inspiring to see young people engaging with such important messages, and we’ll continue to back campaigns that bring people together and promote respect and understanding.”

It’s been such a positive experience to be a part of, and we’re looking forward to continuing this important work in the months ahead.
