Trade Centre Wales Sponsors Neath Port Talbot Community Sport Awards 2024: Celebrating Grassroots Excellence

The Neath Port Talbot (NPT) Community Sport Awards 2024, held on Friday, 7th June at the Princess Royal Theatre in Port Talbot, shone a spotlight on the remarkable achievements of local grassroots sports clubs and outstanding individuals from across the region. This year’s event, proudly sponsored by Trade Centre Wales, marked a significant milestone as they joined as title sponsors for the first time.
Hundreds of active sportspeople of all ages gathered to celebrate sporting prowess and achievement, creating a fantastic atmosphere as winners were announced across 13 award categories. The evening was made even more special with video clips shown on the big screen, showcasing all nominees ‘in action’ and highlighting their dedication and skill.
The pinnacle of the night was the presentation of the Lifetime Achievement Award, supported by Trade Centre Wales, to Nigel Davies from Port Talbot. This prestigious award recognised his exceptional services to the sport of boxing, celebrating his lifelong commitment and contributions.
In closing the event, the Deputy Mayor of Neath Port Talbot, Councillor Wayne Carpenter, underscored the importance of sport in the community. “Sport plays such an important part in our communities. It develops community leaders and positive role models from all ages and backgrounds. Sport brings people together. It can help break down barriers, give people confidence, and spread self-belief,” he said.
Councillor Carpenter also expressed his gratitude to the local business community for their support, with special thanks to the Founder and Chairman of Trade Centre Wales, Mr Mark Bailey. “A special thanks to Founder & Owner of Trade Centre Wales, Mr Mark Bailey, for his support as title sponsors. It was a true honour to be able to recognise the wonderful achievements of all deserving finalists and winners at this inspirational event.”
Nigel Davies was honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award sponsored by Trade Centre Wales for his 50-year dedication to boxing. He started at Croeserw ABC, founded the Cwmavon Hornets gym, and coached Team GB, producing over a hundred National champions. Nigel coached at two Olympic Games and led national teams for the Netherlands and Sweden. Now, he runs his own gym, training young athletes daily. His lifelong commitment has significantly impacted the sport and many athletes.
