Welsh comedy icon and TCW brand ambassador Mike Doyle delivered more than just laughs during a heartfelt and hilarious visit to the Men’s Shed in Pontypridd this week. Mike spent over 90 minutes speaking with members, sharing stories of life, fame, and mental wellbeing — all with his trademark charm and wit.

In a warm and relaxed setting, Mike reconnected with an old friend from his panto days in Porthcawl and sparked dozens of conversations that left the room buzzing with energy.

One regular at Men’s shed Michael, said:

“It was perfect — a great mix of serious matters and the kind of problems many of us have had in life. The humour and laughter were a real tonic. The guys were buzzing, and as he noticed, no one wanted it to end!”

Men’s Sheds are community-driven spaces where men from all walks of life can come together to socialise, learn new skills, and support each other. With a fully equipped workshop, the Pontypridd shed also helps retrain those looking to return to the workforce, while providing vital social support in a welcoming environment.

“This is mental health at its highest,” said Mike. “Men’s Sheds are lifelines. They’re welcoming, they’re supportive, and they’re changing lives — all over the UK. If you’ve never been to one, now’s the time.”

The visit had a powerful impact on members. Adrian, a regular attendee, said:

“I found it thought-provoking, with a large dash of humour. It went down tremendously well with the members present. I particularly liked the ‘900 sleeper theatre’ story on the cruise ship line — classic!”

Alfie Thomas, former Welsh rugby international and fellow TCW ambassador, is also planning a visit to the shed in the coming weeks. A dedicated mental health campaigner, Alfie is keen to meet members and lend his support.

“Men’s Sheds are doing the kind of grassroots work that changes lives,” said Alfie. “I can’t wait to visit, have a chat with the guys, and be part of something this powerful.”

Mark Bailey, Founder and Director of Trade Centre Wales, said:

“At TCW, we’re proud to support organisations that are making real, lasting impact. The Men’s Shed in Pontypridd is a brilliant example of how communities can lift each other up through friendship, purpose, and support. We’re thrilled to see our ambassadors engaging with such a fantastic group.”

Engaging with groups such as Men’s Shed shines a light  on the important work they are doing and is just one of many steps Trade Centre Wales is taking to build strong, supportive links within the community.
