Matthew Wright, who works as Payroll Manager at The Trade Centre Wales in Neath, took up the renowned Cardiff Half Marathon in a bid to raise over £800 for the NSPCC.

The Trade Centre Wales supported Matthew’s fundraising efforts with a £250 contribution.

The Cardiff Half Marathon route takes runners past the capital’s most iconic landmarks, beautiful scenery and historic buildings, starting outside Cardiff Castle, and coming to a grandstand finish in the heart of the city at the Civic Centre.

It was an early start for the member of staff, waking up at 5:00 a.m. to reach Cardiff in time for a quick coffee before getting ready to take on the challenge.

A keen runner, Matthew said, “Cardiff was rammed with people and the atmosphere for the race was awesome.”

Matthew reached the finish line at position 6,651 out of 20,404 runners in just 1 hour and 56 minutes, completing the 13-mile race. He said; “I am very happy with that, for my first half marathon.”

Proudly awarded with his medal, Matthew said, “I ran for NSPCC because I know how much work Mark and The Trade Centre Wales have always done for the charity, and it’s such a good cause, so I  wanted to continue that support.”

Following the race, Matthew and his family went to local restaurant, Giovanni’s, for a well-deserved recovery meal.
