First Minister Eluned Morgan Visits Afon Y Felin Primary School.
Tuesday 4th February 2025
Excitement filled the air at Afon Y Felin Primary School as the First Minister of Wales, Eluned Morgan, paid a special visit.
The school, known for its resilience against socio-economic challenges, welcomed the First Minister with open arms.
As part of our community engagement programme here in Trade Centre Wales, our brand ambassadors Mike Doyle and Gareth Thomas visited Afon Y Felin Primary School in North Cornelly. Their presence added to the excitement and highlighted our commitment to supporting local communities.
During their visit, they said Eluned Morgan engaged warmly with the students, moving from class to class, sitting on the carpet with younger children, and singing along to Welsh songs. Her genuine interest and approachable demeanour made a lasting impression on everyone.
One pupil shared, “She was a lovely lady and sat with me to ask me about my learning. I told her I loved our school.” Another added, “We loved singing Welsh songs with the First Minister; she knew all the words too!”
The First Minister also took the time to speak with parents, seeking their views on various topics. She expressed her admiration for the school, saying, “I was delighted to visit Afon Y Felin Primary School – I received such a warm welcome from the staff and pupils. It is a wonderful school, and everyone, staff, pupils, and their families, must be very proud!”
Head of School, Denise Jones, said ‘It was an extremely busy day for us in Afon Y Felin Primary on January 16th when we had some very important visitors coming to school.
Firstly our wonderful community champions Gareth Thomas and Mike Doyle held a session focussing on building confidence and aspirations with our older learners in Progression Step 3. The children were led by the two inspirational role models with an engaging and motivational Q and A session about their careers and how they want to support the children in achieving their goals and dreams.
We were also extremely fortunate to have Eluned Morgan the First Minister for Wales visiting the same day. She had the chance to meet the two men and see first hand, how they were promoting self esteem and confidence with the future generations in their community work.
We continue to be thrilled to have the support of the Trade Centre Wales which is enabling our children to have equity and access to those experiences taken for granted by so many.
The visit was a testament to the school’s dedication to fostering self-belief and aspirations among its students, showcasing the remarkable achievements and vibrant community spirit within its walls.
Mark Bailey, Trade Centre Wales Founder & Owner Said:
