Trade Centre Wales is continuing its commitment to supporting local communities through its ongoing engagement programme, delivering meaningful educational sessions for young people across Wales. As part of the latest visit, ambassador Gareth Alfie Thomas led a powerful and engaging session at Afon y Felin Primary School, focusing on the realities of homelessness and the importance of empathy and understanding.

The session also welcomed a guest speaker from The Big Issue, who shared real-life insight into the challenges faced by people experiencing homelessness and the work being done to support them. Pupils were encouraged to understand that every person’s situation is unique. Discussions explored the stigma often associated with homelessness and challenged misconceptions, helping children to develop greater awareness and compassion.

A key message throughout the session was that homelessness can affect anyone. Children were encouraged to think beyond financial help, recognising that kindness, politeness, conversation, and simple human connection can all make a difference. The discussion also highlighted that people who appear to be begging may often be asking for more than money — sometimes seeking support, dignity, or companionship.

Mark Bailey, Founder and Director of Trade Centre Wales, said:

“We believe education is one of the most powerful tools to create understanding and compassion. By opening honest conversations like this, we hope young people grow up recognising that homelessness is complex, and that small acts of kindness can have a real impact on someone’s life.”

Trade Centre Wales remains dedicated to supporting initiatives that inspire empathy, awareness, and positive community action among young people across Wales.
