Backing Machen Cricket Club to Strengthen Grassroots Sport

At the heart of this is the “Walking in the Valleys” initiative—an inspiring charity event that has grown from five clubs in 2022 to twelve today, raising over £70,000 for junior cricket. The annual walk brings clubs and communities together, creating real opportunities for young people to get involved in the game.

Founded in 1878, Machen Cricket Club remains a cornerstone of cricket in the Rhymney Valley. The club has seen strong recent progress, with a revitalised youth setup, ECB All Stars and Dynamos programmes, and growing junior and ladies’ teams. Funds raised will support equipment such as bowling machines, helping young players develop and encouraging more participation.

Chairman Dai Knox said:

“It’s been fantastic to see the camaraderie from all the clubs involved this year. A big thank you to everyone who has taken part and donated. The funds raised will help youngsters improve and encourage more young people to get involved in cricket. We’re also grateful to Glamorgan Cricket for hosting and to Trade Centre Wales for their support.”

Trade Centre Wales’ support has also reached beyond Wales, with brand ambassador Mike Doyle recently visiting Western Province Cricket Club in Newlands, Cape Town, strengthening international links within the game.

Trade Centre Wales was pleased to sponsor Machen Cricket Club, with brand ambassador Alfie joining the final leg of the walk from Taffs Well to Cardiff Cricket Club. The team proudly wore their new jerseys and raised around £1,700 for the junior section another fantastic effort in support of the club’s future.
