Trade Centre Wales and Neath based local radio company Bay Radio picked up a top industry award at the annual Arqiva Commercial Radio Awards in London. The radio commercials made for Trade Centre Wales were named as the best UK ads winning the ‘Commercial Radio Station Creative’ award category.
The adverts which play out on all local stations in South Wales, featuring comedy character ‘Trevor’, beat of competition from hundreds of entries from radio stations across the UK.
Andy Griffiths, Bay Radio’s Marketing Director and producer of the commercials said: “These awards are commercial radio’s equivalent of the Oscars and we’re proud to bring the award home to Wales. We at Bay Radio were chuffed when Trade Centre Wales came to us to create a new campaign from scratch and we’re especially thrilled to have beaten of some stiff competition from well established companies. It’s now time to reveal the identity of the voice behind Trevor as Welsh Entertainer Mike Doyle. Mike has an amazing talent and does all the voices on the adverts.”
“It’s true to say we did have some negative feedback at first from people who thought we were making fun of local accents. Both Mike and I knew this might happen, but the both of us are Welsh and share the same sense of humour. We’ve created a bit of a monster really. Trevor is talked about and mimicked in work places, shared as ring tones and one school pupil in Swansea has written sketches for a school play based on …. you’ve guessed it …… our Trev!”
Trade Centre Wales’ Chairman, Mark Bailey said: “In a very competitive business environment we needed to make our name stand out from the crowd. Trevor has been phenomenally successful in doing this. Customers come in to Trade Centre Wales quoting catch phrases from the commercials and asking for his autograph”.
